Semester Course (meets twice per week for half a year)
This course is for all students who are interested in writing their own music. Whether you鈥檝e been taking lessons for years or not, this course 鈥渕eets each student where they are鈥 musically and develops skills in the following five areas: terminology, notation, listening, music theory, and composition or song writing.
As research for writing their own music, students will listen to music extensively in order to hear the instruments used, genre, and compositional style. There will be work in basic music theory so the students鈥 compositions will be built on a solid foundation. Students will have access to keyboards and guitars for theory work and composition writing.
