Are you a community member who is interested in school news?听 Do you want to learn about the new LHS building project or see Dr. Hackett’s Superintendent Reports?听 天美视频 Public 天美视频 has migrated our news to ParentSquare, a robust communication tool that we can send out text, voice messages, pictures and lots more!听 ParentSquare has greater capability to translate our news for everyone in the community and you can also use an app to get our communications!

Our system (Signup Genius) went live on Monday, October 16th at 6AM.

You will also receive an email to families with the same information.听

Conference will be held on Friday 11/3/23 and Friday 1/5/24.听听

Believe it or not, we are two weeks away from the first day of school! Summer is quickly coming to an end, and it鈥檚 back-to-school season again. I hope your families have all found time this summer for some fun and relaxation! I鈥檓 reaching out today to share useful information regarding the upcoming school year.

As I mentioned in my 8/7/23 message, our students鈥� team, homeroom, and locker information were posted at 3PM on Monday, 8/14/23 via the online parent and student portal .听Complete schedules will be distributed to students on the first day of school. In the meantime, you can check out our teams鈥� summer letters, which provide important back-to-school information and a listing of team personnel,听.

We hope that this letter finds you doing well, albeit some very cold weather.听 We鈥檙e reaching out to provide some additional information about our new mass communication system, ParentSquare.听听

Overall, the implementation has gone well, and as can be expected with anything new, we have found that a number of questions have come up from users. Based on your feedback and questions, we鈥檝e created a resource, which we will also post to our school and district website. We hope that this is useful as you begin to receive more communications from the district and schools through ParentSquare.

ParentSquare is intended to be a 鈥渙ne stop鈥� communication hub, where the district, schools, and even eventually teachers, can communicate with families. The platform has an app, which is not required, however, with the frequency of cell phone users, we鈥檝e received feedback over the years that an app would be helpful.听 If you have multiple children, the app will provide 鈥渇eeds鈥� for each school.听 You will still get communications if you don鈥檛 have the app, so no worries if you have not downloaded it.

Additionally, in order to participate in two way communications (this feature is not active yet), you would need to accept an invitation from ParentSquare.听 We have a number of families that may not have accepted the invitation yet, or may have just joined.听 Again, if you do not wish to take advantage of two way communications, you do not need to accept the invitation.

At the presentation, Jane Hundley (天美视频’s middle school social studies department head) and I discussed the following topics (with time stamps for the video):

• Overview of our standards-based grades (4:12-8:00)
• Why did 天美视频’s middle schools transition to standards-based grading? (8:00-13:45)
• The equity and communication challenges of traditional grades (20:35-31:00)
• What is communicated in our standards-based report card (41:10-51:40)
• How do we as parents and educators support our students’ learning within this grading model? (51:40-56:30)

In between each of these sections, we paused to answer folks’ clarifying questions about our presentation and our standards-based grading system, in general. Thanks to everyone who was able to attend and ask thoughtful questions!
